a good examination of chinas role as capitalist and imperial superpower. misunderstands maoism as something different from capitalism, granting workers and peasants more social power. so far doesn't seem to effect analysis of current tendencies and contradictions

This book seems really interesting and I look forward to reading it in the future. This book included a lot of technical language that requires me to focus a bit too hard for an enjoyable reading experience at this time. When I get back to this I expect my vocabulary to receive a big boost!

“The key question to decide whether the state is capitalist or not is who controls the state, whose interest it serves, and what logic drives its state-owned industry. If workers control the state and use its power to address democratically determined social needs, then it makes sense to call it socialist. But if bureaucrats and capitalists control the state, use it to make profit….. it remains capitalist.”
