Status Updates From Blood Crazy: Aten In Absent...

Fewer than 100 pages now. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely not bad, not at all. It's just not... I don't know. I haven't connected to the characters. Also, BC1 was full of different characters with extensive character development too. I fear there's none of that here. Yeah. A few things missing. As I said. It's as if the soul of BC1 is absent.

Had this been the first book in the trilogy, would I have been do impressed as to race to big the second? I have my doubts. It feels connected to the actual first book only in theme. The soul, I fear, is not there. Glimpses of that soul appear and quickly evaporate just as momentarily. It's a shame.

Not super happy with the way this goes. Still, it keeps my interest. Knowing that there's a 3rd book coming, I'm wondering whether that's the reason the pace is so much different to the original from 30 years ago. Maybe.

Very... VERY different kind of writing. If anything, at most it resembles the way the first book ended. Longer sentences, longer descriptions, longer passages of minimal action. 100 pages in and any sense of terror comes from descriptions of uncertainties, instead of current, urgent situations that were the norm in the first book. Massively different. Not worse. Not better. Different. Less immediate. I miss it.
