Status Updates From Cartea accidentelor

It’s in the way Wendig begins his chapters…like this starting sentence to my next morning read (Chapter 33):

“Anxiety trapped Oliver like a ring of spears”

An above-average writer giving the reader the impression that this is a simple scary story…after allowing one of his characters to give a recitation on the gruesome history of their surroundings:
“Just then: Bang!
The loud sound came from the front of the house.
They all froze and stared.”
(From chapter 32)

When the Mom says “we’ll be okay”, it’s a sure sign the shit will hit the fan. Foreshadowing be damned. It’s in the complacent words.
