I can somewhat see why she did what she did but she still gets the side eye😒

The book is honestly pretty good so far. Loving the connections to Ghanaian culture with scenes of upbringing, fear, betrayal, hurt and love.

“She been the one to bathe him. And dress him, read him the news highlights and plump the pillows behind his head. She memorised his physio exercises, and they work through them together, two wilting bodies taking back some of the time they’ve lost”.

“He feels stupid standing up here without her, like the most important piece of himself is missing”.

“When Sam comes to, he trembling. He reminds himself to hold it together in front of Liv, but sometimes the grief is so thick he feels he could choke on it”.

I’m crying and sobbing. Krystle why? Why did Efe had to die?? She wanted more in life than motherhood. She didn’t get to see Sam and Liv. The way her mother treated her. She just wants to be heard and understood. Her sister I felt bad for her.

Slowly, Efe nods. She understands. For almost two decades home has been a place shifting under her feet; she forever feels like she could take one step too far and the world could topple, her life shatter into pieces. It was all Same: school, university, relationship, motherhood. She can understand Nanadowoa wanting something steady. Maybe this too is brave.

“But Efe overthinks because she knows how easy it is to ruin a life, she knows that a series of small mistakes and pressure applied too soon can irrevocably change a person. People are malleable”.

He’d wanted a family all his life, so badly at points that his whole body ached with longing. But maybe all this time he’s had more family than he’d ever realised.

‘Being a parent is hard. Not everyone knows how to do it. I was barely nineteen when I had you. Can you imagine being a parent at nineteen? Suddenly you’re in your thirties with two kids, wondering when your whole life passed you by.’

‘ I can live her and still want something more for my life. Live and regret aren’t mutually exclusive. I just’ she hesitate - ‘ai couldn’t go back to the beginning.
