Status Updates From A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

“Sometimes when you had nothing at all and it was raining and you were alone in the flat, it was wonderful to know that you could have something even though it was only a cup of black and bitter coffee.”

“[The tree] looked like a packed crowd of people of assorted sizes, standing umbrella protected in the rain.”

Very interesting how similar in circumstance Francie is to Demon in Demon Copperhead which I just DNF’d. For Francie, there still seems to be hope, something to look forward to. There was still a will to live. I didn’t get that with Demon, unfortunately.
