Soooo the brids are (all?) magical? Like I get the whole caladrius-search as like this big adventure around a "mystical legend". Makes sense since the late 1800 was a phase were mystical creatures had this appeal. But I didn't expected a fire spitting finch from the German Schwarzwald... I don't know what I got myself into... 🙃

"The strix owl was a vanishingly rare bird located... It would not be crying" - um... isn't "strix" like a genus of owls, where as a specific bird would be like a strix aluco or a strix nebulosa? Is the bird-nerdiness of this book not bird-nerdin'???
Same with the attacking "bloodthirsty" lapwing (vanellus vanellus) it's described as something from Jurassic Park, while being smaller than a common crow?!
I'm lost.
