didn't realize how strong of hold the WTO/TRIPS had on China's productive forces in the 2000s. honestly seems more like a revisionist bureaucrat comprador capitalist economy rather than a bureaucrat monopoly capitalist one at this point in their development (on the semi-periphery, with high value exports dependent on western imports). need to revisit and read more about changes in '10s/'20s.

love how this essay im on calls out and critiques Hart-Landsberg & Burkett's 'China and Socialism' for understanding how Deng's reforms ultimately amount to capitalist restoration, yet somehow still completely misunderstanding the decades of class struggle in Revolutionary China & the GPCR, blindly accepting propaganda about the period as an "economic disaster," "authoritarian," "lacking workplace democracy," etc.
