C'est bien un livre qui mérite le titre de classique de la littérature africaine. Les personnages sont attachants. La prose est magnifique. Aussi, Les problèmes liés aux conditions de vie des femmes en Afrique de l'ouest sont très bien exposés et réfléchis. Ce livre malgré sa date de parution est encore très moderne.
