Status Updates From Tatami Galaxy

I finished the first “chapter” (act? Section?) and agree with a few reviewers that the protagonist is annoying. However, I’ve decided I want to keep going. Chapter 2 is far less irritating. Unlikeable characters are ok, but I do still want to care about what happens to them.

That said, fans of insufferable young man protagonists like Catcher in the Rye would probably dig this. Maybe I'll end up digging it. Fingers crossed. I do like the strangeness and magical realism so far, so there are some things I appreciate, I'm just always hoping that the next read is going to land as an all time fave.

Have learned my lesson, read the first few pages in the book store before buying something I've never heard of.

A little disappointed I didn't do any research and so didn't know that Morimi is known for his insufferable college bro protagonists. My interest piqued once I got to the second chapter. I'm hoping I'll be surprised and end up really enjoying this, but the whole insufferable young man protagonist trope is so not my vibe and never has been. I didn't even like Catcher in the Rye when I was a teenager.
