What is this book? A romance, then tell it through the eyes of the romantic leads. Or is it a coming-of-age story? If so tell it through the eyes of the child. It is so weird for there to be switches in POV between the adults and the child when it seems like it's a romance.

it's always the little things around terms like "claim" that make all the difference in romantasy--especially all the little things that express consent, choice, and agency

and i love that Claire took the time to do that here, in the most organic way

love the way that Roe is herself, and the way Claire distinguishes her female characters one from the other

i love how she is believably uneducated and a believable product of her fantasy country/time/culture

we love a man--dragon? mragon? dram?--who loves and values kids

stuff i love: dragons and/or non human creatures ACTING non human

stuff i'm "get stuffed, mate" about: talk of "claiming" women--and in this case it's more palatable, or at least understandable, given the above

(nb, much as i hate attempted SA scenes, this is one of the only ways i can stomach them--the heroine is centred, not the attempted assault, and it's not for the cheap purpose of the hero being able to charge in and save her)
