I’m hearing Sagan’s voice as I read- what a teacher he was, still sharing his brilliance, and his gentle way of bringing us along as he explains his thinking.

“Billions and billions of stars” so many generations remember the excitement he shared and how contagious it was. This book does that too as he discovers the human brain and its oddities

Still engaging. Although the science of sleep has progressed much further in the last 50 years (book is form 1977), there is much of interest here.
The reptilian brain is fascinating. Brain biology explains behavior in humans and mammals.
And Sagan’s asides and speculations are always so well worded. A delightful read

“There is no way to explain the discontinuous appearance of stone tools unless the australipithecines had educational institutions (!) a stone craft guild of cavemen and women. Lovely tongue in cheek humor threads through these pages

Here’s a scientist with a a droll sense of humor!
