i’m not the biggest fan of short stories but this was near perfection!!
i very much enjoyed this work of chekhov’s even tho almost every woman in this book was portrayed as the heartless harpy archetype!!!! the dichotomy of whore/virgin was very prevalent but tbf all the men were weak & pliable losers so i guess it cancels out.
my fave was ward number 6 but each story was pretty solid!!! 4.5/5

I liked Rothschild’s Fiddle, Gooseberries, and The Lady with the Dog best.
