A good general book for those interested in the USMC 1/5 's role in the Korean war and of Staff Sergeant Reckless. For a book all about Reckless, I recommend Robin Hutton's book, Sgt. Reckless: America's War Horse.

I can see why reviewers prefer Robin Hutton's book over Clavin's : he does not get to Sgt. Reckless until chapter 3. However, he's taking a much broader approach to her story by beginning with more background information about the war and the heroic men who fought in it. I think (so far) Hutton's book would be the one to read and this one an ancillary account. I really like this so far. I see why Clavin is popular.

It is plodding along. The writing style is not my favorite.

Good to get the background on why a horse might be beneficial in the Korean War more specifically for help with the deoscilating rifles
