Wow. This book was really heartbreaking. Review to come.

Which is worse, being brainwashed and spouting out other people's stupidity or being naive and spouting out the same stupidity willingly on your own?

Nice. Years later the older children joke about their father's inability to keep it in his pants. Nannies leaving abruptly, etc. Disgusting!

"...but Heinrich believes everyone is intelligent until proven otherwise, and proving otherwise takes a lot of time." Only if the people don't open their mouths dear. It's easier to hide silliness or worse by not saying a word... Course I can't shut up, so what does that say about me?

Not sure if its me or not, but the narrative seems rather disjointed and somewhat distant from the topic.

Holy cow! How's that for isolated? The boarding school Aimee was sent to was so closed to the outside world that none of the students or teachers got the flu of 1918! Lonely, but safe!
