Status Updates From Zanzare

Patricia and David go for their midnight swim and try to hold each other up by their backs while treading water.

While bunking together, Jenny and Patricia talk their bodies, men, their sayings, and college. Mrs. Maurier takes a break from cards and meets up with Gordon who interrogates her about Patricia. Mrs. Wiseman quits the card game and finds Mrs. Maurier, who is acting strangely, and helps her to bed.

After Jenny apparently consents to Talliaferro’s awkward advances, Mrs. Maurier suggests the crew dance to conclude the night. Patricia meets back up with David; they decide to swim together at midnight.

Talliaferro assaults Jenny while she sleeps in a most Disney-like fashion. She awakes to great alarm, and he flees.

Patricia spies David cleaning, and he reminisces to her about all the boats he has served on and the beautiful places he has seen around the world. Patricia wants to travel with him, or at least have him go for a swim with her to break up the boredom.

Fairchild observes Josh crafting his ornate cherry wood pipe while telling him about his Yale days and his failed attempt at joining a fraternity.

The party-of those who are above deck-discuss last night’s weather and the running aground. Fairchild asserts that Talliaferro should be bolder with women.

Pete and Miss Jameson talk about the weather, the tardiness of breakfast, and the futility of love.

After the boat sets sail at dawn of day two, Miss Jameson thinks about her lack of success with men.

As the day draws to a close, Talliaferro consults Fairchild about his chances with Patricia. The men return to the deck to find it deserted.

Mrs. Maurier quits the card game and takes a walk, the remainder of the players slowly adjourn.

Josh sneakily gets up after most have fallen asleep to seek some wire for his project. He finds a steel rod in the captain’s quarters and steals it, planning to replace it before morning.

The entourage talks their next destination and the fisherd that may live their over a dinner of grapefruit.

At dusk, a swarm of mosquitoes attacks.

After the Major throws himself overboard, the party goes for a swim that ends in a moment of revelatory ecstasy between Patricia and Gordon.

Jenny and Pete talk about how boring the rich folks on this cruise are and wonder what Josh is making with his wood. Josh interrogates the captain about the specifications of the boat; Patricia startlingly joins to the chagrin of Josh and more so the captain.

The group discusses Andrew Jackson and apple tarts. Mrs. Maurier suggests a game of bridge to which most of the party declines. Mr Talliaferro, Mark, and a few of the women remain. Fairchild and the Semitic man discuss Talliaferro’s affections for Maurier while retiring to their room for a nap with Gordon.

Lunch commences after the men return from helping the Major find his teeth. The Major tries to sell Mark his idea of selling salts to cure constipation.

The Nausikaa sets sail with its motley crew aboard.

Mr. Talliaferro meets up with Fairchild and a couple strangers at Broussard’s. Mrs. Maurier and Patricia return home as Josh is whittling on the veranda. Fairchild and a crony meet up with Gordon outside his studio where he tells them he is joining them on the cruise.

They all go back to the studio, where Gordon shows Patricia, Mrs. Maurier’s niece, the piece he’s working on, wherein she sees her own likeness. The ladies leave with a declined invitation. We then learn about Mr. Talliaferro’s tragic marriage, the jobs he has held, most notably at a women’s department store, and his bachelor status of 8 years.

Mr. Talliaferro observes Gordon in his article studio while claiming to know so much about sex. Gordon, not really paying attention, asks him to go change out his milk bottle. On the way back from the store, he runs into Mrs. Maurier, who asks if he has invited Gordon to the yacht cruise.
