The Fragments of an Earlier World by Camilla Grudova, set in the 1850s was creepy and excellent. A family in Hamilton welcome family from Scotland. Weird.... (4.5 stars)

The Night Birds by Premee Mohamed - Social worker trying to save a young girl in Calgary... creepy (4.0 stars)
Church and Westbound Train by David Neil Lee - Vampire?? meets a Metis hero. Really neat (4.0 stars)

Fancy Dad by David Nickle (3.5 stars) and The Black Fox by David Demhuk (4.0 stars) had similarities, set by cabins on the lake but also different. Got quickly to the point with eerie short stories. Nickle's deals with ancient evils, while Demchuk's deal with a father's past crimes.

I preferred In the Gulf, The Night Comes Down, a story about beware what you wish for (35 stars) to Lightbringer - difficult to wrap my head around. (2.5 stars)

The Needle Song by Simon Strantzas was excellent, a boy dies on a school trip and how they cope. Lots packed into a short story (4.0 stars)
Sandstone by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Nebulous? Rekindling a romance with a vacation on an island, husband goes for midnight swim... (3.0 stars)
Prairie Teeth by EC Dorgan. Definitely creepy, Lady forced into a gambling game with the Devil... odd thing to use for dice... (4.0 stars)
