Did I read this in March? Yes.
Am I rereading it only four and a half months later? Yes.
I felt a strong desire to reread this beautiful story right after I finished it, so me holding on for almost five months is a win. And me rereading it is an even bigger win. My heart is breaking all over again. I'm loving it.

giving hua cheng the very much needed backstory on how everything about him that we met in tgcf came to be. silver butterflies, naming himself san lang, the ghost city (ESPECIALLY HOW THE GHOST CITY CAME TO BE) is such a fun thing to read. just gives tgcf and hua cheng a whole lot of depth. i will cry by the end of this im sure. people who write behemoth fics like this are then devils and angels themselves

people who write literal books w retellings or alternate universes without totally diverging from canon are gods istg
