Status Updates From Into the Churn

I'm glad that I made it past the early pining portion of this book. While I think this will be a crowd pleaser for YA readers, for me it used a lot of romance tropes that I hate. Like him being bigly huge and her being teeny tiny. For a while the book would not shut up about how tiny she is. The type of pining isn't my thing either. The whole: they'd already be a couple if they just communicated!

This seems like a fun, slightly unserious book so far. It reads YA and I think it is, but also the characters are older than you usually see in YA. We have had a few "as you know" conversations, and the slang the author invented for the story is a little too thick in the text for my taste, but younger Julian would have liked it!

This book wants so badly to be The Hunger Games.
