this book is so funny to me, the way 3 out of the 4 chapters were just stuff that Gordon taught in classes, i hope the seminal article "did sissy porn make me trans" gets mentioned

Omg, the dick disappearing acts of witches are framed as an early account of trans panic. So too is blood libel, for one variant involved the theft of children's foreskins.
I've never thought about these moral panics in such a manner. Sexism and racism driven by anxieties of gender loss, addition, and reversal. More than sexual assault, gender assault—the logic of conspiracies still operating today.

"Long-haired and androgynous, genitals obscured, member swollen, punched full of wounds, lactating blood, rich in orifices, Jesus was never more transitional than at the moment of crucifixion."
Nonbinary mommy Jesus is my new favourite hot take.

on shakespeare’s sonnet 20: “The paradigm of pricking, then, renders gender into an open-ended process of slipped edges and dropped stitches, raveling and unrav-eling, working and reworking, copying and embellishing, pattern-making and improvising, That is to say, when gender is handmade, it is transitional.” (60)

The first chapter was phenomenal. Second chapter started out very interesting and pretty great, but I think I got lost in the discussion and couldn't understand the depth of the deep dive into the Duchess of Malfi.

That was just the introduction orz
It was a really powerful read though. I feel like the language used is pretty sophisticated? I think that's the way to describe it. Some of it is hard for me to grasp the first time around, so I have to reread paragraphs at times. That's alright though! Reading is progressing and evolving my understanding!
