“There is a bigger scam at work here, which allows other scams against refugees to thrive. This is the grand scam of artificial nation-states, hard borders, rising walls, passport hierarchies and visa regimes- all built on the deluded notions of ‘purity’ vs the ‘other’ and of an ‘us’ vs a ‘them’

“The notion of ‘being realistic’ when talking politics is absolute nonsense. It has less to do with finding comprehensive solutions than it does with acquiescing to processes that are convenient for those in power”

Surprisingly dense read, with lots of commentary accompanying the graphic novel bits.

Learning so much! It’s interesting how geography is tied so closely to the US backing harmful regimes.
Bahrain:
“The country’s strategic location along the shores of the Arabian peninsula has long been precarious for its people”
Egypt:
“Trade, weapons, and capital flow freely between the EU states and Egypt… Egypt is after all a key player in protecting EU shores from the flow of refugees & migrants”

It’s impressive to see the numbers for the amount of people protesting in the streets. In Lebanon in 2019 it was 36% of the population. In Bahrain in 2011 it was 43% of the national population. I’m trying to imagine those same percentages happening around me and it’s crazy to conceptualize

I really like it so far, I like that the journalist and the comic artists are separate people and the journalist is able to comment on the artists work. First bit is about the riots in 2019/2020 in Lebanon. Kind of want to watch the video the comic references of a protester kicking an armed bodyguard in the balls

"It is vital to understand that what is currently happening in the Middle East arises as a result of a decaying post-WWII order."
