Clarke is at his best when he captures the awesome scale of the artificial world he is describing. Like Niven’s Ringworld it’s the landscape that takes one’s breath away.

In the world in which Clark envisions social Moores have developed so that men and women have multiple partners within a marriage. I’ve seen this before in science fiction. However, it is a little more than a sexual fantasy which bears no connection with how people really feel. I know about “ thouples” in our current society they do not last.
