It’s giving boomer but I also kinda agree

I feel like I'm reading a data sheet. I thought surely this isn't Levin, ran to the reviews and see three friends, one in the DNF column, also struggling with the 'Hello, is this Levin?" thoughts. Perhaps his body was hijacked for a few months for this one.

Not Ira Levin's best book, but still pretty decent and a lot of pages still read so you never know.

Nothing says “of its time” like an explicit rape scene followed by the victim declaring there’s no need to apologize 😬

I am overall enjoying the book, but this is part of the value in exploring art of the past, not just the cheery depictions of the era by people who remember it fondly. The good old days were garbage! We don’t want them back!

The great SF of the first half just started to take a

The influence of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World and George Orwell's 1984 shines luminously in this 1970 version of a dystopian future!

"Everything came to seem questionable to him: totalcakes, coveralls, the sameness of members' rooms and thoughts, and especially the work he was doing, whose end, he saw, would only be to solidify the universal sameness. There were no alternatives, of course, no imaginable alternatives to anything...." ❄❄❄❄☹

I'm enthralled by this author's ability to present the intricacies, subtleties, & intimacies of horrifying situations in such an easy-reading style!
