Bruno says that the universe is both infinite and One, so he also must hold that 1=∞. Yet this is far from true for if we take 8 pebbles and add infinitely many rows and columns, that is a very different operation from leaving it as it is, the result of 8 times 1. It's also true that 1+1=2 and ∞ + ∞=∞, showing that One must be fundamentally conceptually distinct from the infinite. Parmenides wins, it is limited.

A strikingly contradictory notion: world-soul-matter as being all it can be, and yet being matter, defined by potentiality rather than actuality. Complete nonsense! Matter should be precisely nothing that it can be, not in any case all: wherein must lie the crux.

Gets really interesting now that it gets to specifying the modal stuff ie. materiality! I still think the world-soul more in Mainländerian terms, though without the tragic element of his philosophy, so I can't really accept this in totality probably but regardless - very interesting stuff.

Re: the potency of the world-soul...If the world-soul has intellect as its potency, it means intellect is just its matter and it must be in itself someTHING quite distinct from mere governing intellect. This alone is enough to crumble Bruno's Platonic lies.
