Israel had no king, until they did. They’ve disobeyed and become like Sodom and Gomorrah. They traded the opportunity to become a kingdom of priests with God as their King for a corrupt kingdom like all the nations around them. They’ve become common, the opposite of holy. And now their king lies dead at the hand of the Philistines.

Loving God fully and walking in obedience to Him is the good life.
Following other gods and being disobedient to God is a cursed life.
Israel (and we) have a choice between life and death.
Material abundance leads humans astray, as they forget the God that brought them out of the wilderness and into abundance.
God has a heart for the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow.

Amazing how frequent the complaining from Israel is. They would rather the ‘comfort’ of slavery in Egypt than the wandering in the wilderness. Moses acts as an intercessor on multiple occasions to prevent God destroying all the people.

God really cares for the poor. He’s intricate with making a way for humans to access His holiness.
