Sinéad lived our collective suffering in song. Exposing wounds too many of us have had to bear under the weight of Judeo-Christian patriarchy and its fear and oppression of women, she sings to us here, in the name of the Universal Mother. She did not give her life for us in vain.

Sinéad’s trajectory toward mental illness was a slow build, the seeds having been sown in childhood as recounted on this LP. “Mental illness” sometimes proves physically spectacular and entertainment worthy for the exploiters, but the cost to those struggling is insurmountable. For Sinéad, public flogging took its toll.

This fire-breathing dragon who loved us with a warrior’s passion lived a public feminism germane to Universal Mother, a feminism especially relevant to the sorry state of our present world. That is, even though I will try my very best to go lightly, this book is feminist as fuck.
