We are beginning to see that to be in a relationship with an animal invites a different sort of awareness with ourselves, an awareness that has a magnificent ripple effect on the rest of our lives. The biggest obstacle for most people is the courage to see where we have been dominant, in fact predatory, & without punishing ourselves, simply choose another way.

When we use dominance in training animals...what we are showing them is “This is who I am as a human. This is my unique contribution.” & the animals will invariably respond without judging it. Their response is, “Okay. There you are. Here is how I respond to you.”

The freedom created from releasing expectations is what allows us to actually move in the direction of going out on the trail in harmony. No agenda does not mean no results.
It means, “I’m listening.”

When we start having the courage to interact with & listen to our own storms, we begin to realize just how powerless these storms really are.

When I’m with the horses, I don’t try to ground myself. I just get really, really honest with myself. If I’m scared, I don’t try to hide it....[this is being vulnerable but showing what’s currently true for me]

Horses sense our energetic, emotional & mental states w/ clarity w/out us saying a word to them. They sense what’s actually going on within us even when we hide from ourselves. Their response is to what they sense. [“Bad behavior” or resistance to what we ask] can be communication that they sense something in us that is incongruent with our outward expression.

Instead [of punishment, correction], I show him a different perspective. How can I listen to him without judgment or punishment? Simply asking that question creates new space to start hearing each other, seeing each other, & sensing so much more together.

We have this mindset that’s been developed over eons that a horse needs to be dominated, controlled, trained. We have this fear that if we lose control, if we lose dominance, we will be injured, damaged, or even worse, feel embarrassed. Humans, when faced w/ embarrassment or loss of control, will often go straight into dominance by whatever means necessary.
