Given the context in which I find this, it sums up the entire book in such a meaningful and succinct way.

Dialogue is still unbearable, but I understand the purpose.

Despite the antiquated transatlantic dialogue, Percy can write his ancient ass off.

The dialogue is still annoying but everything else is alright. Had I bought this at full price instead of finding it at a library sale for a quarter, I'd be pissed lol.

Not sure I'll finish this. Like TEN NORTH FREDERICK, the book that won the National Book Award the year before this one, it suffers from what I like to call "Average White Person Food". It's bland and the texture is all wrong. It speaks of an age where whites ruled, and even the poorest Caucasian spoke in spotless transatlantic English, which is decidedly bullshit. The 60s were a terrible time for literature.
