For bigots, these “culture wars” are a swinging pendulum but for us, they’re a wrecking ball. They measure bricks in ounces; we measure bricks in speed.

Queerness is not a story of my loss; the loss is what fear of it costs others. The tragedy is not the family love I was deprived of, it’s the happy child they never got to know. The closet didn’t keep me from the best parts of others, it was the other way around. It showed me who they really were. The kisses I was scared to give in public I still got in private. It’s their streets that did without my romance.
