I spend most daylight hours holed up in their guest room with the down comforter and dried flowers pressed into the bed frame. It has a wood desk with a quill pen and specialized stationery.

"In case anyone wants to write letters," my mom says.

"Who stays here? Emily Dickinson?" I ask.
