Alright, well, that's over. It was fine. Less substance than the first one, it felt like. But still enjoyable.

One aspect I wasn't considering is that I guess the intention of this climax scene is to have the Falcon directly involved with it, rather than just being a means of escape like it was in Stars' End. Covering all the Han and Chewie staples.

Seeing as I'm already at 88% and knowing how fast this goes by, I guess there just isn't going to be any big set piece spectacles like Stars' End. Feels relatively low key by comparison. Bit of a letdown. This story has been ok, but has also felt a little bit more aimless than the first book.

One aspect of this plot that doesn't make much sense is how Han keeps asserting that Zlarb's employers owe him 10,000 credits. He killed Zlarb and freed the slaves; he quite literally did NOT complete the job he was being paid for. Therefore he is not entitled to that money. I know it doesn't really matter, because Han wants the money regardless, but it bugs me that he keeps couching it that way. It's wrong!

Still feels like this is blazing by, for how little I've been reading. The first book also wasn't that long but this one feels like it's perhaps tipped over to the wrong side of too light and too breezy.

It's neat how much detail Daley gives into the slapdash, heavily modified nature of the Falcon. I feel like that's something most EU novels pay vague lip service to, but never actually go into detail about. Daley is really having fun with it. Maybe the Lucasfilm-imposed restrictions got tighter, and that's why no other authors were able to do this. But it's a shame we don't get more of this.

Oh, hey, Roa and Lwyll appeared. No wonder Crispin was so hellbent on including him in her books. But that raises a few questions. One, they list off a names of people she did not include. Considering how many unnecessary characters she DID include, I wonder why not these. Two, they make it sound like Roa and Han have been separated for years. But they haven't been in her books. She really screwed things up, christ

It's kind of funny how much of the conflict/problems thus far could've been minimized or mitigated with a comlink call. I know communication technology was less robust in 1979, but comlinks existed in the first movie. Not sure why he seems reluctant to include them here.

The idea of Han grabbing a woman's hands and sniffing them deeply is fucking hilariously creepy. He was trying to smell if she had been using chemicals, but still, funny.
Ok, there's swoop racing, mentions Han used to swoop race. Crispin did include that detail in her first book. One thing she got right, imagine that.
Vibroblades are commonplace in SW, but I realized this had to be their first appearance ever. Cool!

I feel like I have barely put any time into this, yet I'm already approaching a quarter of the way done. Flying through this. The first book was short, but not THIS short. Damn.

I was thinking how the religion thing with the Badlanders felt like a slight rehash of the Ewoks with C-3PO. But then I remembered this was written 4 years before RotJ. Neat.

The first book was surprisingly enjoyable. I'm hoping that continues into this one.
