This has such strong Wuthering Heights vibes, and since I didn’t really enjoy that book, it doesn’t really bode well for the rest of this one. Honestly, I’m probably just gonna skim the rest if only so I’m not stuck remembering nothing but the horrible scenes I just read.

I would listen fearfully as the house shuddered about me, straining and creaking as the wind whipped and whined and snarled its way around the manor, prying at the tightly shuttered windows, howling ominously when it could not get in; and I would wonder how the walls that encompassed me continued to withstand the ruthless, relentless elements.
