Gupta wrote that Rama imposed tests on Sita to prove her commitment to him as a wife. Not true. Rama knew that Sita was unblemished, and the "tests" were proof of this fact to the rest of the world, which was quick to criticize. Implying Rama is patriarchal when he was angry enough to destroy the world and cried inconsolably at his wife's loss is, in my opinion, unfair. Aside from that, this is an excellent book!
