After all, when the emotional dysregulation becomes really bad and an escalation does reach boiling point, someone can say something in that moment of rage that can be deeply hurtful for the partner on the receiving end and the person who said it will feel great guilt.

Communication suffers when there is an emotional trigger, especially with a neurodivergent person. Something in a conversation will trigger an emotional response. The neurotypical partner might not have realized that the ADHD partner has been triggered or that they’ve said something that has ‘hit hard’ with the ADHD partner.
