Common arguments against homosexuality: Choice: "[C]hoice is only relevant if there is interest or desire, are heterosexuals saying they are also aroused by the same-sex?" And choosing to be hetero?; Procreation: "There are three categories of childless heterosexual couples receiving sanction and marriage rites... young... couples deciding not to have children... older couples... and infertile couples." 'Christians... "treat so literally the references to homosexual practice in the Bible, while at the same time they interpret biblical texts on almost every other topic [including slavery] with considerable flexibility and non- literalness."... they overlook other biblical mandates, for example, stoning disobedient sons [etc]... you can be faithful Christians without accepting all scripture as authoritative.'

"...it is true that the experiences of racial and sexual minorities are not the same; a more accurate statement of the parallel is that the negative attitudes and arguments against both groups have been similar and sometimes the same./The more compelling argument is that discrimination and exclusion are never acceptable behaviors for treating fellow human beings." I'm already glad that I picked this book up

Interesting: "This book points out the parallels between historical white Christian justifications for slavery and racial discrimination and present black Christian justifications for gay oppression (unjust excercise of power that denies gays equal treatment with heterosexuals)." Perhaps I can use this to persuade some of my stubborn family why oppression and discrimiation is wrong no matter the reason.
