The Preface and multiple footnotes and references sent me to read again several classics. From Capital I Ch 25 to the 1844 Introduction, to the History of Russian Revolution Ch 1, amongst others.
The first chapter finished with the aforementioned predicaments. Davis tries to trace how Marx (after insisting on reading the monumental Collected Works) developed the concept of proletarian agency.
