It's a lot more challenging than I thought it would be, because it's not as energetic as Nabokov's other works, and the language games and family drama are exhausting after a while. Reading this has been one of the most punishing experiences of my life. I’ve been slowly reading it for months. Every time it gets good, I’m caught off guard again by the gratuitous sex scenes between kids. It’s almost ruined Nabokov for me. It doesn’t feel clever or interesting..
