A validating book for me as someone who experienced a similarly challenging birth experience and felt frustrated by the ‘cone of silence’ around the realities of birth (acknowledging each persons experience is different). Strongly agree that birthing and recovery should be spoken about more openly and directly, particularly by health care professionals. We can sit in multiple emotions simultaneously!

love the bringing together of scientific biological features of becoming a mother, the emotional landscape, and the socio-cultural context and way our insane society impacts mothers. such an important book, wish i could make every mother and potential mother i know read it! although it’s extremely repetitive, not structured particularly well, and completely fails to mention queer parenthood and gender nonconformity
