Status Updates From Мъглата

Hab heute 5 Kurzgeschichten gelesen: "here there be tygers" (random ass kurzgeschichte aber unterhaltsam) - "the monkey" (extrem gut, ziemlich gruselig) - "cain rose up" (verstörend, aber kurz genug um nicht schrecklich zu sein) - "mrs todds shortcut" (fragwürdiger Ansatz, extrem gute Umsetzung macht es aber geil) - "the jaunt" (selten was gelesen was so unsettling war)

The man who wouldn’t shake hands: I’m not a fan of this ghost story group lol. This one was I guess a bit more interesting than a winters tale. But I’d need to know or care about these men to make it work I think. Also: because of the raft, I was assuming this was another creep show segment (the one with the germaphobe locked in his apartment who gets killed by bugs). Nope!

Word processor of the gods: interesting idea but too obviously executed. I would have liked Jon to be just as bad as Seth at the end, so Richard had to deal with it being home

Finished The Mist, which follows the remaining survivors trying to get by in a mist infested world.

I do like this “Road to Nowhere” ending where the lives of everyone in the story (not counting the dead ones) are left up in the air, while giving us an open-ended “Alfred Hitchcock ending” that will leave you surprisingly satisfied. In any case, this is slow-burn horror at its most finest.

Rating: 8/10

Finished Chapter 10 of The Mist, where preparations are made for Dave’s escape, along with a few allies, but they must contend with one crazy lady.

It’s confrontation time as Dave goes up against the doom-sayers of the market. I do feel this story is at its best when there is realistic tension in an otherwise otherworldly horror story.

Finished Chapter 9 of The Mist where Dave, Ollie and five of other people venture out to the Pharmacy.

Now this chapter in particular is full on survival horror, while the other chapters are more of a slow-burn, this chapter alone really nails the inescapable dread of a misty monster-infested nightmare world.

Finished Chapter 8 of The Mist, where Dave & Ollie uncovers a gruesome sight, Dave gets along well with Amanda, and Miller proposes a plan.

Looks like there is a wider mystery happening in the background thanks to mentions of the “Arrowhead Project”, but it’s very minor storyline, while the themes of staggering danger is pretty strong. I’m liking this story so far.

The raft: my god does Stephen king have a misogyny problem. Great story tho

Finished Chapter 7 of The Mist, where the shopper spend their first night in the market, where dangers and reminiscences are aplenty.

Ok, so I think I get the whole backstory of Dave’s character, and also get a look at what the creatures in the mist look like. I do say that these creature designs do look stunning in written form, it can also inspire aspiring creature designers to take inspiration from them.
