Status Updates From Berserk, tome 10

This volume was relentless! And Kentaro Miura does so much with shadows and gazes it’s crazy! It’s so good. The action is top tier, in this volume in particular! It’s getting darker and more disturbing as we continue. I’m really enjoying this story and I can’t wait to continue reading!

Was Griffith jealous when Casca wiped the blood off of Guts’s face? (Which was a sweet thing to do!) He sure looked like it. And I’m scared.

Who are the Black Dogs? And Wyald? Why the hell does he look like this? Ew. I’m traumatized from the last scene. What the hell is his business with Griffith? I hate the King so much Princess Charlotte needs to kill him. That was some quick thinking back there by Pippin (and Griffith) every member of the hawks (besides Corkus I guess) is really good! I love them so much.

Also Princess Charlotte putting herself in front of Griffith and taking that poisoned dart was insane. What did Griffith say to her? I need to know!

Judeau is so smart and cool! That was brilliant! But there’s another one left of the Bakiraka!

What the hell is the Bakiraka? And why they look like they’re from Jojo’s? But I’m scared.

Look at Guts go!

Guts is furious now! I can’t wait to see what he does! It was sweet of him to wrap his cloak around Griffith and put the helmet back on. I hate how things are going to go really bad.

It also looks like his hair was cut too. I’m losing it. When Griffith moved his hand and touched Guts neck…did he choose him for sacrifice? He got the crazy look in his eyes. And was surprised when Guts hugged him. And sad (and almost regretful?) when Guts started crying. I’m scared. But I understand. I think. I’d want to live too after this.

I’ve got goosebumps! (yet again!) seeing Griffith like this is horrifying. I’ve felt this dread rising from the pit of my stomach as they were learning the extent of his injuries. The tendons in his arms and legs were cut, his tongue too (what the torturer did with it was disturbing) and flayed many parts of his body. I’m guessing his face is flayed too, that’s why the helmet is locked onto his head now.

Did they flay Griffith? What the hell did they do to him? I’m scared.

“The city ended up becoming a melting pot of feasting and pleasure…at least I think. But God finally decided he couldn’t condone the Skull King’s deeds and sent five angels. By lightning and earthquakes. The city was erased from the face of the earth without a trace in the span of a night.” And Casca asked “weren’t there four of them?” They’re the Godhand right? Interesting!

I’ve goosebumps. The history of Midland and the Tower of Rebirth and Emperor Gaiseric (who is totally the skeleton knight right? That was his ghost wasn’t it?) was so fascinating! The skeletons at the pit with the sacrifice mark carved into their heads…the Emperor sacrificed them didn’t he? Everything about him is similar to Griffith. It’s so interesting.

Did the eclipse start? I don’t think so. What the hell happened? Poor Rickert! I was so afraid that he’ll be torn to pieces. I’m so glad the skeleton knight saved him. And now I really wonder if he is Guts? Or is he just the one orchestrating them? But that was the Count was it not? The others I don’t recognize. So are they all Apostles? Interesting. I got chills. And I’m scared. It is happening.

But it was such a cool sequence! I loved it so much!

And I’m shocked that I almost forgot but Griffith’s peeking into another dimension with the Godhand members telling him “we are kinsmen” and “in time, at that place, we shall meet” and calling him “Blessed King of Longing” and before that the little critters who look very much like the Behelit came and called him “Prince” I wonder what’s that all about. And why him exactly?

I enjoy seeing Casca and Guts exist in the same space now. It’s so fun.

I respect her for going against her despicable father and trying to take control of her life. I like seeing her and Casca interact. It’s very interesting. Judeau’s suggestion to take her as a hostage was wise! I get why Casca objected to it but it’d come in handy if they were caught. For her to ask to come along with them willingly is also interesting! She keeps on surprising me.

Infiltrating Windham 1 and 2 were really good! I’m so scared to see what Griffith looks like now! He was kept in the dark intentionally. And the little POV we got of him at the start of Infiltrating Windham 1 was great! It explains his dream but shed a light into his relationship with Guts and how he sees him. It’s so interesting. Princess Charlotte being their source of information from the inside was insane!

I loved this (“Sparks from a Sword Tip l”) chapter so much! I hope Godo and his daughter are still around! And that we’ll see her taking on her father’s craft. And the last two and a half pages gave me chills! I really love how the fantastical elements are seeping into the world with the advent of the eclipse! And the last page with Griffith’s Behelit necklace in the riverbed. I wonder if it’s close by.
