The skeletons standing in their crypts gave an ovation of clattering jaws, the lids of the Thrall jars warbled as their bases shook. “Let go,” I spoke with a voice dipped in death. “Of my fucking vampire.”

which I felt a little bad for.

“I didn’t take anything. I feel great.”

“Obviously. What the hell is with the pillow fort?”

“I read about them in a book. Did you know kids make these and sit inside them to read?” He lifted his eyebrows.

“Kay. You didn’t find something here and swallow it? Little pink pills or some powder maybe?” I quizzed. “You didn’t eat any of the cookies, right?”

“Do you want more cookies?”

“So, we’re going into a club, relying only on some homemade glamour tech you buy off a black-market dealer that barely tolerates you based on intel you bought with human flesh from a wendigo diner cook?”

“You forgot that I fucked the club owner’s boyfriend while high in his other club.”
