Close to finishing. I’ve been working on this one for a while. It’ll be nice to be able to reset with something different.

I feel like the book wants me to take it for granted that Nix is as alive as you and me. I live in a world of shitty AI, though, and I remain stubbornly resistant to the idea that Nix is anything more than what they are programmed to be. Still, their story of becoming “a real boy” is engaging.

I think I’m getting back into regular reading. The further I get into this, the more it is interesting me. I still haven’t really taken any notes or quotes except one. Nevertheless, I think I still feel positively about this book, though maybe not so positively as Holly, who gave it five stars. It would have to have a really stunning second half to earn that from me, most likely.

Happy I'm starting this as part of my end of year re-read. Both because I apparently didn't review this book the first time around but also because I'm happily marinating in beautiful prose and intriguing philosophical quandary.

Absolutely love how the phrasing in this book reframes reality into sci-fi; ex: people exchanging life hours for things - is that not literally what we do in capitalist society? Brilliant!

Just one 15-page chapter today. (Kobo pages) And I’m rounding up from 18.9%.

Holly gave this 5 stars and recommended it. Then she started reading LINCOLN IN THE BARDO, which I recommended to her, so I felt guilted into reading her recommendation now instead of putting it off. 😝 Seems okay so far.
