Status Updates From We Lived on the Horizon

Close to finishing. I’ve been working on this one for a while. It’ll be nice to be able to reset with something different.

I feel like the book wants me to take it for granted that Nix is as alive as you and me. I live in a world of shitty AI, though, and I remain stubbornly resistant to the idea that Nix is anything more than what they are programmed to be. Still, their story of becoming “a real boy” is engaging.

I think I’m getting back into regular reading. The further I get into this, the more it is interesting me. I still haven’t really taken any notes or quotes except one. Nevertheless, I think I still feel positively about this book, though maybe not so positively as Holly, who gave it five stars. It would have to have a really stunning second half to earn that from me, most likely.

Happy I'm starting this as part of my end of year re-read. Both because I apparently didn't review this book the first time around but also because I'm happily marinating in beautiful prose and intriguing philosophical quandary.
