It definitely doesn't take 120 pages to establish loyalty between characters, yet this final confrontation is totally out of the blue, almost as much as the sudden alliances between the characters involved.

"...never to be seen from again"? If his English were imperfect because he's a non-native speaker that would be one thing, but this is a polished, well-edited book. Hard to believe.

"In that respect, he is not like the fictional 007. He is not posh, and he will never belong."

It's been pretty clear from the first few pages that this guy was based more on Daniel Craig than Sean Connery, but the last half of this particular line could literally have come from a Daniel Craig script. Duly noted.

Something about these titles seems off to me. Vanishing Man is cool because of the internal rhyme/assonance thing it has going on, but On Enemy Ground reflects the undistinguished, generic qualities of the spy in question. The third one, Shaken, Not Stirred is, admittedly, hard for Bond fans to pass up, but it's also a gimmicky ripoff title used for the ending to a story that builds its identity on Bond.
