Status Updates From Hunchback

god! this started out smutty which i thought was just her writing job but it's not, it's leaked into the main narrative. the story is that she's paid her carer for 'services' (although she seems to be doing the servicing) and after giving a blow job where he finishes in her mouth she develops aspiration pneumonia. ffs. that's a plot point i never want to read again ಠ_ಠ

so bummed! this started out so promising!

this is going downhill. :( all the things she dreams of, like being a sex worker (i mean sure it's lucrative, like bobbie with her two houses sings, "i ain't done bad") or of being pregnant and having an abortion... like these are things you really don't want to do unless you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO. idk. now she's about to pay her carer to impregnate her so she fulfil her dream. this is getting fucking weird now

i really like this! because the narrator's life is different to 99.9% of people, her thoughts are very different as well (although with context it makes perfect logical sense).

this is the first book i've read in ages where it truly feels like fresh point of view

the narrator is unusual. she's 40-something, lives in some sort of facility. the only contact she has with people other than her carers are in online classes. she enrols so she can say she's a 'student' (um she could call herself a writer? but she doesn't identify). she gets paid for her porn writing and donates it all because she got an eyewatering inheritance which will go to the state when she dies

this is a very short novella that starts with PORN. was so relieved that the whole book wasn't going to be like that and it was just an example of what the narrator does for work!!! so weird. is there a market for that? no actually i don't want to know. the narrator has a disability that seems quite severe but it's her life and she gets on with things. i quite like her so far
