We are so afraid of pain. But our most uncomfortable stories, our most painfully jagged and indissoluble griefs are also the cracked places where our luminous awareness and belonging can arrive.

Imagine my surprise and delight upon finding out the title is from Kurosawa's Dreams! side note, I have now finally seen Kurosawa's Dreams.

I'm wondering if this will be a purchase. There's so much that feels resonant. Like I could read these essays over and over again and take some new weight from them each and every time.

Larson writes about the Sonora in ways that make me ache for home. Not a thing easily accomplished.

I've loved most of these essays, but "The Crane Wife" is by far my favorite. At least, so far...
