It's been almost a decade since I first read this, and I'm am astonished to find just how much of it has stuck in my memory - right down to specific images and turns of phrase. So many of my favourite things have proven themselves easy to disenchant with the cold light of a sober revisit; it is so refreshing to be able to just grin and say, 'Yes!
