Status Updates From Ulysses

I've been putting off reading this for a long time. It's very long and there is an exceptionally high probability that I'll hate it. I gave A portrait of the artist as a young Man a heartfelt one star as one of the worst books I'd ever read. Which opinion has not changed. But this is considered a great work of literature so I will at least give it an honest go.
