Status Updates From The Curators: A Novel

I saw that this was originally a short story and I think maybe it should have remained a short story. Very little has happened and even less is actually interesting. Plus, the modern language is frustrating me. I am probably not going to finish, but I and so disappointed because this had been a highly anticipated read.

I watched The Murder of Mary Phagan when I was a kid and it haunted me. I couldn’t NOT read this book. My only complaint so far is that language feels a bit modern for a book set in the early 1900s.

the golem had never seen a real bird, so for him, her shadow falcon was the original, and its feathered counterpart…would be the copy. the truth was that the soaring bird, which looked less like a real bird than it did the way a heart might look of it was light enough to fly, was the single most beautiful thing a person could do with her two hands in the dark. and she was happy to show him.” 🥹

I can't seem to stomach this book at present. That may not be the book's fault. I had some surgery, and my tastes are off, perhaps not only in food but in reading. I will take a break and check it out again a little later.
