Nur lost his mother in childbirth and didn't see his father until he was 5. His friend Murad is in prison. They write letters between the lines of books. Nur finds an Israeli ID in the pocket of a second-hand jacket he bought. It becomes his shadow self, the mask. It hives him a confidence he did not possess.
He's making notes about a novel he intends to write about Mary Magdalene and the lost gnostic gospels.
