Awestruck at how Elie went on this secret adventure to meet random Jews in the Soviet Union, report for Haaretz, and judge for himself. In the first two chapters, he does a concise and wonderful job of explaining the fear that Soviet Jews lived under and also the Jewish will to endure. Not sure how I’m just now reading this, but thankful his words have come to me now.

this week’s progress. feel like the book is repeating itself quite a bit, and i’ve been so tired on the train lately, so not much progress has been made

this week’s reading update.
i didn’t realize how little background info/context readers would be given about what went down in the soviet union btwn the holocaust and wiesel’s visit. wiesel just kinda keeps referencing it, occasionally elaborating on what russians tell him it was like, and i’m like 🤷🏻♀️ i know nothing 🤷🏻♀️
