Status Updates From The Naked Eye

Rereading each chapter after watching the Catherine Deneuve movie that it’s named after. I wouldn’t bother with ‘Zig Zig’ tbh - an unfunny comedy.

Chapter one - Repulsion
1965 film by Roman Polanski where Carol (Catherine Deneuve) has a pathological fear of men, and bombards herself inside her apartment where she suffers debilitating hallucinations.
There’s a few references to the film by the use of indirect similarities:
“Between the room’s four walls i was plagued with anxieties.” (P32)

not totally sure how to feel abt this so far. i like a detached narrator as much as the next person but the main character is going through so many traumatic things at once but narrating so flatly it’s hard to feel the magnitude of anything. i can already feel her obsession w catherine deneuve kicking in though, interested to see where this goes
